>> i'm mike. let's get right over to rose mary and a quick check on that weather this saturday. >> not only saturday, but the first day of summer, 2014, and it's going to be another fabulous one outside our doors and across the bay into san francisco. you can see we've got a little bit of low cloud, patchy fog cover out there. we also have high cloud. let's take a look at the satellite view. i'll show you very widespread this morning. these high loud clouds continues to stream through on and off for today. a mix of high clouds as well as the sunshine. the on-shore breeze is a little stronger this morning. 17 miles per hour rortd in fairfield. we do have concord at 14. that southerly gust about 23 miles per hour. the low clouds in the fog a little deeper this morning. the on shore breeze just a tad stronger. that should lead to a minor drop in temperatures for the afternoon today. right now we are looking at 62 degrees in antioch. wall mutt creek, you're checking in at 58. stepping outside in novato, low 50s, as well as santa rosa holding onto low 50s at this

hour. 53 san francisco. 52 half-moon bay. 55 for mountain view. slide in along the peninsula. 57 outside your door this morning. palo alto 54 for belm ont. sunny vail already checking in at 57. 51 for saratoga. as we get into the afternoon today, temperatures a lot like yesterday chl again, we'll shave off a few degrees. if it was a little too warm for you, you may get relief into the afternoon. the bay area microclimate still in full effect. we've got 62 for pacifica today. 66 san francisco. low to mid 70s along the east bayshore line and inland, it's a warm day. mid 80 for youshgs concord. 87 antioch. low 80s into the north bay. santa rosa and napa, that's a cool down from yesterday. 86 degrees for today in morgan hill. temperatures will be slightly cooler today warming back slightly warmer for tomorrow. i'll take a look at that weekend forecast and your extended forecast coming up. >> well, san francisco's world famous lombard street will be off limits to most cars this weekend. it is part of a pilot program as

neighbors complained about crowds and congestion from tourists. ktvu's kristen is live for us in san francisco to tell us how long this closure could last. christian. >> yeah. good morning. we're going to give you a quick live look. tourists are already starting to make their way down lombard this morning. today, san francisco will begin the experiment to shut down traffic on -- on this road. we're, again, seeing those tourists coming down already, and some residents say that is where the problem begins. >> try to get in my driveway. you honked. i got to go in, you know. they give you the bird. >> neighbors living here say things have changed over the years. the crowds have gotten bigger, and in some cases, ruder. now, the city is beginning an experiment to shut down lombard. pe des reasons will still be able to walk down the street, but some neighbors are worried that without the cars, some of those pedestrians who are walking down lombard could spill out on to the street, and that could cause even more problems. as for the visitors that we've

spoken with, most said residents knew what they were getting into when they moved into what is essentially a major tourist attraction. >> it's a tourist attraction. you don't like it, i guess you got to move. >> not a lot of sympathy there from that visitor. the car ban takes effect from noon today but does not include taxis or residents. the ban will be in effect from noon until 6:00 and will be in effect the next four weekends and the upcoming 4th of july holiday. as for the long term, that remains to be seen. the sfmta is considering a long-term ban. you can see residents here enjoying a morning jog and, of course, starting to see those tourists showing up here this morning. we're hopeing to get a little bit more reaction from tourists when they hear they will not be able to drive down lombard from noon until 6:00 today. for now, we're live in san francisco, ktvu channel 2 news. the red cross is helping ten people find a place to stay after an overnight fire in berkeley. it happened just before midnight

at a home on martin luther king boulevard that had been divided into units. no one was hurt, but neighbors say the flames were a frightening wake-up call. >> i grabbed the phone to call 911, then i grabbed -- i wake up my kids and ran out of the door. >> the cause of that fire is still under investigation. damage is estimated at $300,000. a fire that damaged several homes in fairfield is under investigation. it started about 3:45 yesterday afternoon at the cordelia junction where interstates 80 and 680 come together. the fire jumped the freeway and moved into neighborhoods. firefighters say three homes and four sheds were damaged or destroyed in that fire. about 50 homes were evacuated. >> the cops come banging on my door and told me they need to get me out of there really fast because of the fire. >> the fire behavior is burning like it was in october, and it's only june. >> firefighters say strong wind gusts help thad fire spread

quickly. it teak firefighters several hours to get it under com. we posted more video on ktvu.com. firefighters are battling a wild fire. that fire started about 3:30 yesterday afternoon in the town of san andreas. the fire is now 75% contained and has burned 120 acres. about 30 people were evacuated from subdivision for just a few hours, but they have since been allowed to return home. a napa county hospital is now limiting visits to its maternity ward because of a statewide whooping cough epidemic. people who are coughing, have a runny nose or similar symptoms will not be allowed to visit the family birthing center ot st. helena hospital. children under the age of 18 will have to show proof of immunization to visit. more than 3400 case of whooping could have have been reported statewide this year. that is the most cases in four years. the families of three young men killed in the deadly rampage

in isla vista are demanding more information. the bodies of james hong, david wang and george chen were found in an apartment after police say they were killed by elliot roger back in may. roger shared an apartment with two of the men, but the victims' parents say it's unclear how he was able to overpower them, and they are criticizing investigators for not telling them how they believe the kilgs were carried out. today, crowds are expected to gather to welcome home a u.s. army combat medic from marin county. specialist ryan is scheduled to arrive at sfo later this afternoon. he'll be greeted by family, friends and patriot guard riders. those riders will escort them to a welcome home celebration. specialist served in both germany and afghanistan. the federal government has signed off on a plan allowing city college of san francisco to keep its accreditation for at least the next two years. the san francisco chronicle reports the u.s. department of education approved the plan from the accreditation commission, allowing it to review the

advances the school has made in the past year. the accreditation commission is expected to give final approval next week. a bay area man in his 60s is now recovering after being hospitalized with west nile virus. he is the bay area's first human case of this potentially deadly illness this season. officials say june is relatively early to have a report of a human getting infected. next week, control says it is planning to target the man's contra costa neighborhood with mosquito traps. >> we will put out traps in the area where the person got infected. we'll look at catch basins and look in the area to see if there are any mosquito populations that we need to take care of. >> west nile virus is usually transmitted to humans from a bite of an infected mosquito. less than 1% of people become seriously ill. in just a few hours, the 8th annual east bay aids walk will kick off in oakland. that 5k walk starts at 10:00

this morning. all donations from the walk will go to help in the fight against aids. last year, the event raised over $75,000 to help support aids programs in alameda and contra costa county. frms well, happening today, the chp is holding a bike and pedestrian safety event in marin. that is scheduled to get underway at 10:00 this morning in the parking lot of the auditorium in san rafael. a bike school rodeo will be set up to teach children about bike safety, and mechanics will also be on hand to inspect bikes. a lottery ticket worth nearly half a million dollars that was sold last month. it's finally been claimed. according to the california lottery, bought her meg millions ticket on may 9th ot san leandro express liquor. she matched all the numbers except that mega number. she said she only learned last week she had the wing ticket when she checked multiple tickets purchased over the last month. get ready to pay more the next time you go to starbucks.

starting tuesday, starbucks says certain beverages will go up 5 to 20 cents, and next month, pack ajd coffee beans are set to rise about $1 for a 12-ounce bag. several other major coffee companies have been hiking prices in reaction to the forecast of a drought in brazil, which produces half of the world's supply of arabica beans. the youngest qualifier in the history of the u.s. open won't be the youngest golfer to make that open cut, at least for now. 11-year-old lucy li of redwood shore shot a 78 for the second day in a row yesterday. however, her two-day total, 16 over par, missed the cut by 7 strokes. she says playing at the u.s. open has been an experience of a lifetime. >> the experience has helped me a lot because i really -- i just want to stay patient, and i know it'll help me. yeah. >> michelle wi won the crowds over with her carefree attitude. her next competition thereby u.s. women's amateur in

this prgs of ktvu channel 2 news brought to you by lexus. san francisco police are investigating a takeover style robbery inside a nail salon that led to a police chase and a crash. it happened just before 8:00 last night on ok taif yeah street. police say at least three men armed with guns robbed people inside the nail salon and then

drove off. that then led into a police chase, which ended when the robber's car crashed into a second vehicle at 9th and mission. three people in the second vehicle suffered minor injure ris, and police say they were able to catch two of the robbers, but the third got away. family and friends are mourning the loss of a marine from new hampshire who died while serving in afghanistan. 19-year-old lance corporal brandon was killed yesterday morning by a roadside bomb in afghanistan. two other troops and a military dog also died. neighbors say garrett was also a volunteer firefighter who was eager to serve his community and his country. >> came home on leave. first thing he did, he was contacting me. chief, i need to page you soy can help you out. >> he was assigned to nato security forces. funeral plans have not yet been announced. this morning in iraq, mill about thes are claiming control of a border crossing after a day of attacks that killed 30 iraqi troops. the announcement comes after militants also claim the town

175 miles northwest of baghdad. militant group haves taken over much of northern iraq, including the country's second-largest city and have threatened to march all the way to baghdad. president obama says 300 u.s. military advisors will be sent to iraq to help train iraqi security forces. the crisis in iraq is being blamed for a spike in gas prices here in the bay area. gas prices have gone up about two cents in the bay area over the past week according to the web site gas buddy. while the increase is small, it comes after two months of fallen gas prices. the average for a gallon of unledded right now is 4.22 in san francisco. 4.09 in san jose and $4.11 in oakland. drivers who fill up in berkeley could soon see changes at their gas station. the city is considering an ordinance that would require gas stations to post climate change warnings on gas pumps. if that ordinance is approved, berkeley would become the first city in the nation to require the warnings.

a lobby group for the oil industry says the ordinance violates the first amendment. the city council could vote on it this fall. president obama is calling for change to workplace policies, calling family leave and child care basic needs. >> many jobs don't offer adequate leave to care for a new baby or an ailing parent so workers can't afford to be there when their family needs them the most. that's wrong. >> president obama made those comments in his weekly address and ahead of a summit scheduled for monday on work families. according to the president, the u.s. is only one of three countries about a national maternity leave policy. representative fred of michigan gave the weekly republic address and criticized the white house's record on energy developments. all right. today is a big day when it comes to change, change in seasons as we go from spring right into summer, rose mary. >> you're right. big transition, but lit change in the weather. just subtle. subtle changes from day-to-day. today slightly cooler than yesterday. tomorrow slightly warmer than today giving you a lookout

doors. it's a pretty start to the day in and around square. you can see we do have a light breeze. it is on shore at this time, and on shore breeze, low clouds, fog back over part of the coast and around the bay, and that will help to bring temperatures down just a bit. let's take a look at what we can expect from yesterday into today. we have that northerly wind kick up over parts of the north by yesterday, and temperatures really flew. san francisco, sorry about that crowding there, but san francisco will be dropping off a few degrees. napa more notable change for you. 81 today when you were at 90 yesterday. concord going to fall a few degrees from 89 to 85 in san jose. today, you're looking at 79. yesterday you warmed to 83. a look here at what's happening. the satellite view giving you an idea of the circulation in the atmosphere. we're sort of caught within two systems here. we've got the ridge of high pressure over the -- off the coast of southern california. this low in the gulf of alaska has been here all week long, and so it sort of been a little bit of tug of war for temperatures

coming up a few degrees, dropping a few degrees with each passing day. outside our doors right now, if you're stepping out or you could see outside your window, plenty of high clouds overhead. that's where they're actually coming from. so for today, mostly sunny skies in and out of those high clouds. a little bit of patchy fog this morning, but shouldn't be too big of a deal. the winds are on shore a little stronger than what they were yesterday morning. fairfield reported 17 miles per hour. we've got southerly breeze in concord at 14 and napa reporting 13, as well. again, just a tad bit of cooling coming our way. 59 degrees right now in concord. we have 56 in napa. low 50 nsz novato. along the peninsula 58 sfo. 54 degrees outside half-moon bay. 58 in san jose. low 60s in antioch, a lot like how we started yesterday mornings. afternoon highs for today giving you a view here. we've got low 80s expected for sonoma today. 81 for no november. 77 san rafael. nice day by the water in sausalito. 68 for alameda.

response to sexual assaults. it has come under fire over accusations that it has not done enough to protect victims. hill, everest and wie yo tech are all in danger of shutting down. the campuses are run by one of the nation's largest for-profit college chains. the owner says the schools may have to close because of a cut back in federal grants and loans. on thursday, the department of education accused the chain of falsifying job placement data in its marketing. >> i called for assistance in finding something. i didn't get it. i was told to go to the -- literally told me to pull out the yellow pages. >> for the next 20 days or so, the government is with holding funding while corinthian comes up with reasons to justify taxpayer investment. in 2010, it received $1.4 billion in federal grants and loans, more than all ten uc campuses come bind. bay area congresswoman jackie speer says she wants to keep e-cigarettes out of the hands of minors. she is set to introduce a bill

that would regulate e-glets and stop the use of bright packaging and candy flavor. e-cigarettes are being marketed to appeal to children, and they need to be protected. >> gummy bears, cotton candy, chocolate mints, thin mints are not flavors at a local ice cream shop. instead, those are the flavors that you can get for e-cigarettes. >> health officials say that the nicotine in e-cigarettes is just as addictive as the tick teen in tobacco cigarettes. care givers in retirement communities often use antianxiety medications to calm residents down. now, cutting technology is helping them change that approach. the furry friend now being tested in the south bay. >> this has touched our hearts in so many different ways. well, he's just eight years old but has already battled through tin surgeries. the dream that is coming true for this little boy this weekend.

well, walnut creek's wildlife museum is throwing a two-day birthday bash for lord richard. the museum's longest resident is turning 40 this year. she came to the museum in 1974 after being rescued by a family in san francisco. well, her name is richard because everyone thought she was a male until she actually laid an egg in 1980. the celebrations are going to be today and tomorrow. birthday cake will be available at 11:00 a.m. and:15 on both days. fshlgs alameda county firefighters had a challenging rescue after a horse fell 50 feet down an are veen. it happened in castro valley just before 12:30 yesterday afternoon not far from north canyon road. as the crews were getting the horse out, they say the animal kicked one of the firefighters. that firefighter was taken to the hospital to be checked out. the horse is now being treated at a local animal hospital. team usa is preparing for a

tough battle tomorrow when it takes on portugal. players say they are confident they will fall in their 2-1 win against ghana earlier this week. one of the biggest challenges they will face sunday as portugal's christiano rinaldo, who is one of the best players in the world. another challenge is going to be the heat since humidity can get a hundred percent in the rain forest. with the world cup fever in full swing, people from the u.s. are making the trip to brazil to cheer on team usa for tomorrow's game. the only way to get to that city in brazil of 2 million is by boat or plane. this is the first time the world cup games will be played in a tropical rain forest, and fans are looking to explore its rich culture. >> we're about to go on an amazon tour, three days, two nights. we're sleeping in hammocks with mosquito nets. >> many americans are also rushg to try the country's most popular meal. the soup is made from a broth of brazilian root and paired with a

it's amazing. it's a unique place in the world. you cannot find it anywhere else. >> closed to vehicles during peak tourist season. the reason the city is putting the brakes to cars and trucks driving down lombard street. welcome back to mornings on 2, everyone. i'm mike. >> good morning. let's start you off with a quick look at your weather. rosemary has nice forecast for us today. >> good morning to you. welcome to summer 2014. a live look outside our doors across the bay and the bay bridge this morning. san francisco in the backdrop. we do have a little bit of fog out there this morning. low clouds. not a lot. just a little. way more high clouds in the forecast than what we had at least yesterday afternoon. we saw them move through yesterday morning, then we cleared out for the most part. we'll do that again for today. so this morning, a mix of sun and clouds. for the afternoon, temperatures coming down a few degrees for

87 in antioch. 81 for napa. we'll go slightly warmer for tomorrow, but again not a lot of change in the extended forecast. i'll line it up for you coming up. >> all right. thanks, rose mary. well, san francisco's world famous lombard street will be off limits to most vehicles this weengd. it is part of the pirate program after neighbors complained about crowds and congestion from tourists. ktvu's christian live for us this morning in san francisco to tell us just how long this closure is going to be. >> yeah. well, looking at this as an experimental program here on lombard. tourists are already starting to visit. you can see tourists walking up lombard right now. the concern, though, of course, is vehicle traffic coming down lombard. today, san francisco will begin the experiment to shut the road down to vehicle traffic and, again, we're seeing tourists here already. some residents say that's where the problem begins. neighbors living here say things have changed over the years. the crowds have gotten bigger, and they say in some case, those crowd haves gotten ruder. now, the city is beginning a

four-week experiment to shut down lombard. pedestrians, of course, still allowed to walk down the street, but some neighbors are concerned about without the cars on lombard, those pedestrians could spill out on to the street. they say that could cause even more problems. some visitors say residents should have noin about that when they moved in here, but other visitors like some that we spoke to this morning say they're sympathetic to the residents. >> i wouldn't want to live here with everybody -- i saw it yesterday, all the cars so i understand. but i guess a lot of people want to come see it. >> that car ban takes effect at noon today, but does not include taxis or residents. again, that ban from noon until 6:00 will be in effect for the next four weekends, and for the upcoming 4th of july holiday. as for the long term, that remains to be seen. the san francisco mta is considering a long-term ban. again, this right now just an experiment. we are looking to get more feedback from some of the

tourists. if we come back to our live shot, you can see more tourists starting their walk down lombard. of course, we're looking to find out late l bit more from rez depts. we spoke with one resident this morning who did not want to appear on camera. he said the crowds have definitely gotten bigger over the years, but he said he doesn't have a big problem witt. for now, we are live in san francisco, ktvu channel 2 news. well, police are still piecing together the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two people after their bodies were found in a park. police were called to hidden lakes park near interstate 680 and 880 just after 1:00 yesterday afternoon. officer were responding to reports of gunshots but not -- have not officially ruled this case a murder/suicide. the park was shut down while police collected evidence and interviewed witnesses, but police say the public is not at risk. >> there's a male and female there. there are no outstanding suspects. we don't believe that the public is at riks in any way. >> the victims have not been identified, but police believe

both are from milipidas. budget cuts in richmond -- five years ago, there were 47 homicides in richmond. this year there have been six. offices say the drop in violent crime could be threatened by the city's $9 million budget short fall >> we've moved some detectives back to patrol just to make sure they have minimum staffing on the street. >> the richmond police department says it's been asked to cut 17% of its budget. police say that could result in layoffs of a dozen civilian employees in addition to closing some programs. fire investigators in san jose say a fire that destroyed two homes at the base of mount hamilton appears to be accidental. the fire start about 4:30 yesterday afternoon in a shed on the old ranch on clayton road. the fire then spread to those two homes. several neighbors say squatters have been living in one of those houses. no one was hurt. we're getting more information about a suspected dui crash in berkeley that left one person in

critical condition. police identified the driver as 21-year-old anthony of castro valley. he is accused of crashing his core vet right noer the hotel about 2:30 yesterday morning and leaving the scene. he was arrested on felony dui and felony hit and run charges. a 24-year-old passenger is still in the hospital. oakland police are searching for a robber who they say pistol whipped a 79-year-old man just outside of his home. the attack happened thursday night on sheffield avenue in the diamond district. he had been planning to celebrate his 44th wedding anniversary but instead spent several hours in the hospital being treated for head injuries. the attack has left some neighbors pretty shaken. >> i heard him screaming. it was, like, a soft, you know, wailing sound. >> police are investigating whether the attack is connected to other robberies in the area. $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an

arrest, and people who live in that area are being asked to stay alert. a business owner in oakland says she was forced to use a taser on a man who she says was harassing her and her customers. it happened at the sacred wheel shop. jenna david sovn says an intoxicated man came in and out of her store refuseing to leave and threatened to hit her. she says she called police for help but when they didn't show up fast enough, she grabbed a taser to protect hearst. >> i want to know when i know eem on the phone with someone and i sound desperate and say please come help me, i need help right now, that someone is going to stop what they're doing and come. >> i'm not saying other crimes don't get attention to, but the most important crimes that we have to deter and investigate are the most violent crimes, most serious crimes. >> the business owner says she called police a second time, and they showed up 30 minutes later and cited the man for assault. city councilman says the area is seeing an up tick in crime and is hoping to add more officers to patrol that neighborhood. two men have been found

guilty of the 2009 murder of a tourist in san francisco. a jury found 25-year-old william jones and 27-year-old lance guilty of first-degree murder and two other charges in the attack that killed michael bailey. prosecutors say bailey was a college student visiting san francisco from baton rouge when he was rob and had beaten in the bayview district after offering a woman a ride home from a nightclub. his attackers now face 25 years to life in prison on each charge. >> they started beating and kick him, and mr. bailey, who is deceased in this case, got up, tried to take the assault weapon away from them and was unsuccessful. >> michael bailey left behind a wife and three children. bailey's father left his job at the military contractor in kuwait to move to the bay area for the trial. if you're planning to head up to wine country this weekend, be prepared for a lot of traffic. nascar is at the sonoma reyesway. ktvu's fred english has a look at why fans are getting reved up for tomorrow's big race. >> the track has changed several times since nascar's first race

proud of the fact that your government is working, it's fiscally responsible. >> signed the budget while in san diego. he said it's not perfect, but it does address many of the state's needs and pays down debt. republicans said they like to conserve revenue projections but object to some spending increases. here are some more details about that budget. it puts $1.6 billion into a rainy day fund and helps support the underfunded state teacher pension fund. the budget also spans preschool for low-income children, and it ensures state funding for the high-speed rail system, which governor brown is a supporter of. amtrak and the california high speed rail authority are cancelling a joint agreement to bid on high speed trains. a high speed rail spokeswoman says the agencies wanted to reduce costs by bidding together, but their needs are too different. manufacturers are not yet ready to build trains that can run on both amtrak's 100-year-old lines and the high speed corridors

just a bit for sunday. i'll have a look at the extended forecast coming up. san francisco's world famous lombard street will be off-limits to car after neighbors complained about crowds and congestion from tourists. it looks pretty crowded there. >> reporter: it is very crowded. you can see the tourists starting to crowd around lombard street, starting today, san francisco will begin an experiment to shut the road down to vehicle traffic. people are standing in the road. there are safety concerns, we've seen the tourists coming out and residents say that's part of the problem. >> i wouldn't want to live here, with everybody i saw yesterday. i understand. but, i don't know, i guess a lot of people out of town want to come in and have fun and see it. >> reporter: neighbors living here say things have changed over the years. the crowds are bigger and in

some cases rude. the city is beginning a four week experiment to shut down lombard. pedestrians will be able to walk the street, but without the cars, the pedestrians will spill on the street and cause problems, residents should have known what they were in for when they moved in, say tourists. >> it's a tourist attraction. i know, i understand and i feel for the people that live on the street, but at the end of the day they don't have to live here if they don't wish to live on the street. it is such an iconic place. >> reporter: that car ban takes effect at noon today, but does not include taxis and residents will be allowed to get to and from their homes. the ban will be from noon to 12:00 and in effect for the next four weeks and the 4th of july holiday. for the long-term, that remains to be seen, they are considering a long-term ban. coming back to the live shot, you can see the major concern

is that tourists are walking in the middle of the street and they are concerned as the cars come down the road there to be an accident. they are worried about noise levels and general congestion in the street. for what the long-term effect will be remains to be seen. we did talk with a resident earlier that did not want to appear on camera, but said he has seen a marked increase in the number of tourists that visit lombard over the years, but it doesn't bother him. san francisco police are investigating a takeover style robbery inside a nail salon that led to a police chase and crash. it happened just before 8:00 last night octavian street. three men arms with guns robbed people in the nail salon and drove off. that led to a police chase, which ended when the robber's car crashed in a second vehicle. three people in the second vehicle had minor injuries, police say they were able to catch two of the robbers, but the third got away. the red cross is helping 10

people find a place to stay after an overnight fire in berkeley that happened just before midnight at a home on martin luther king boulevard that had been divided into units, no one was hurt, but the flames were a frightening wakeup call. >> i grabbed the phone to call 9-1-1. i grabbed my kids and ran out the door. >> the cause of the fire still under investigation. damage is estimated at $300,000. a fire that damaged several homes in fairfield is under investigation. it started about 3:45 yesterday afternoon at the kordellia junction from 80 and 680 come together. the fire moved into a neighborhood. three homes and four sheds were damaged were destroyed in the fire. >> the cops came banging on my door and said i have to get out because of the fire. >> the fire's behavior is burning like it was in october. it is only june. >> firefighters say strong wind

gusts helped the fire spread quickly. it took firefighters several hours to get it under control. we posted video from the website at www.ktvu.com. there is a slide show of pictures. firefighters are battling a wild fire in call varus county. it is near pull station road. the fire is 75% contained and burned 120 acres. about 30 people were evacuated from a subdivision for a few hours, but they have since been allowed to return home. a napa county hospital is now limiting visits to its maternity ward because of a state-wide whooping cough epidemic. people that are coughing will not be allowed to visit the family birthing center at saint helena hospital. children under 18 will have to show proof of immunization to visit. 300 cases of whooping cough have been reported state-wide

this year. the families of three men killed in a deadly rampage are demanding more information. the bodies were found in an apartment after they were killed by elliott rodger in may. he shared the apartment with the men, but it is unclear how he overpowered them. they are criticizing the investigators. the federal government signed off on a plan to allow city college of san francisco to keep its a yesterdaydation. they approved a plan from the accreditation commission allowing it to review the advances it made in the past year. they are expected to give final approval next week. bay area man in his 60s is recovering after being hospitalized with west nile virus. he is the first human case of the potentially deadly illness this season. health officials say june is

. walnut creek's lindsey wildlife museum is having a birthday bash for lord richard, the turkey vulture. she is turning 40. she came there in 1974 after being saved by a family. she was named richard because they thought she was a male. the celebration is today and tomorrow and cake will be available at 11:00 a.m. and at 3:15 on both days. alameda county firefighters conducted a challenging rescue after a horse fell 50 feet in a ravine. it happened just before 12:30 yesterday afternoon on crow canyon road, near norris canyon road. as crews were getting the horse out, the animal kicked one of the firefighters and the firefighter was taken to the hospital. the horse is now being treated at a local animal hospital.

. this morning, one of san francisco's biggest tourist attractions is getting ready to close as the city examines a way to ease traffic on one of the crookedest streets in the world. i'm claudine wong. i'm mike mibach. first, lets get to the summer forecast. good morning, rosemary. >> good morning, a beautiful day in store, we'll start out with a live look at berkeley, over the aquatic park area. you can see we have a little bit of cloud cover, mix of high clouds as well as low clouds this morning along the coast line, the fog and low clouds are back, giving you a look here at the satellite view. you can see how widespread they are. they are spreading out across san jose, the low clouds and around half moon bay with partly sunny skies outside the door. for today, the low clouds hanging on to the coast line,

traffic. neighbors say living here, things changed over the years, the crowds are bigger, and rude. now, the city is beginning a four week experiment to shut down lombard. pedestrians will be able to walk up and down the street, but some neighbors are worried that that could cause more problems. that without cars, more pedestrians will spill out on the street, that could cause more problems, some visitors say residents should have known what they were in for when they moved here. other visitors say they are sympathetic to the residents. >> i wouldn't want to live here, with everybody i saw yesterday. i understand. but, i don't know, i guess a lot of people out of town want to come in and have fun and see it. >> reporter: the car ban takes effect at noon today. it does not include taxis and residents still will be able to come and go from their homes. the ban will be in effect from noon until 6:00 for the next four weekends, and the upcoming 4th of july holiday. as for the long-term, it

remains to be seen. they are considering a long- term ban. you can see that the crowds just come in waves here. one of the other things we've seen is as of the tourists are out on the road, there are some incidents where cars are coming on leavenworth or down lombard and are honking and the noise level from the visitors and from the passing cars is high, and the safety of the visitors is another major concern, as vehicles travel through this area with tourists milling around in the middle of the road there is a concern about their safety. so a lot of concerns out here. we will continue to monitor the situation. of course we'll have more coverage for you when the ban takes place at noon, from 12:00 until 6:00. live in san francisco, christian caftan. a family near fresno someone is ripping off their water. they have a tank that holds 2500-gallons of water.

that could result in the layoffs of civilian employees and closing some programs. police are still piecing together the circumstances surrounding the death of two people after their bodies were found in the park. they were called to hidden lakes park just after 1:00 yesterday. they were responding to reports of gunshots, but have not officially ruled the case a murder suicide. the park was shut down while police collected evidence and interviewed witnesses. police say the public is not at risk. >> there is a male and a female there. what i want to convey, there are no outstanding suspects. we don't believe that the public is at risk in any way. >> the victims have not been identified, but police believe they are both from the area. two men have been found guilty of the 2009 murder of a tourist in san francisco. a jury found 25 year old william jones and 27 year old lance molina guilty of first- degree murder and two other charges in the attack that killed michael bailey. bailey was a college student

visiting san francisco from baton rouge when he was robbed and beaten in the bayview district after offering a woman a ride home. his attackers face 25 to life. >> they started to beat and kick him, and mr. bailey, who is deceased, got up, tried to take an assault weapon away from them and was not successful. >> michael bailey had a wife and three children. his father left his job as a military contractor in kuwait to move to the bay area for the trial. oakland police are searching for a robber they say pistol whipped a 79 year old man outside his home. it happened thursday night in sheffield. the victim was celebrating his 44th wedding anniversary, but spent several hours in the hospital being treated for head injuries. they got away with the man's wallet and the attack left neighbors shaken. >> i heard him screaming. it was like a soft, you know,

waling sound. >> police are investigating whether the attack is connected to other robberies in the area. a $3000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. people that live in the area are being asked to stay alert. a business owner in oakland was forced to use a taser on a man that she says was harassing her and her customers. it happened at the sacred wheel cheese shop. jenna davidson says an intoxicated man came in the store, refused to leave, and threatened to hit her. she called police, but when they did not show up, she grabbed the taser to protect herself. she called police a second time and then they showed up 30 minutes later and cited the man for assault. we are getting more information about a suspected dui crash in berkeley that left a person in critical condition. they identified the driver as 21 year old anthony edwards of castro valley.

. a refinery in rodeo is the cause for much of the bay area's industrial toxic pollution. that according to a new report that says the philips 66 refinery dumped more than 740,000 pounds of chemicals in the bay in 2012. the environment california research and policy center also says when combined with other polluters, that figure actually goes up to 1.6 million pounds. >> we want the san francisco bay to be there for future

the extended forecast -- coming up. lombard street will be off limits to most this weekend. it's a pilot program launched after neighbors complained of too many tourists clogging the air. we're live in san francisco to find out what sturrists are saying about it -- tourists are saying about it. >> reporter: the tourists not necessarily thrilled with the idea that they can't drive down lombard, one of the iconic streets. this is part of the reason why. you can see some visitors making their way around. some of them walking down the street and obviously that poses a bit of a safety concern. we've already seen a lot of tourists out here already. residents say that's where the problem begins. neighbors living here say things have chained over -- changed over the years. they say the crowds have gotten bigger and in some cases, the crowds have gotten pretty rude. the city will begin an experiment of four weeks to shut down lombard to vehicle traffic. pedestrians will be able to still walk down the street. but some are worriried without the -- worried without the

cars, most pedestrian will spill in the streets and that could cause more problems. some say residents should have known about this before they moved in. >> to shut it down, i think it's crazy. it's a tourist attraction. i know that -- i understand and i feel for the people that live on the street. hat the end of the day, they don't -- at the end of the day, they don't have to live on this street if they don't want to, such an iconic place. >> reporter: the car ban takes effect at noon. it doesn't include taxis. resident also able to drive to and from their homes. the ban runs from noon until 6:00. it will be in effect for saturdays and sundays for the next four weekends and the upulcoming 4th of july holiday. the long-term, that remains to be seen. coming back out here live, you can see what the concern is, you can see cars coming down lombard. as we move to our right here, you can see that pedestrians

tourist, visitors standing in the middle of the intersection. that's one of the major concern concern for residents. the safety concern. they also say there's a major concern about noise. in the time that we've been out here, we've seen cars coming through the area, trying to get through this intersection and honking. that's one of the neighbors' concerns. and we did talk with one neighbor out here who says he's lived here for 48 years. he says nearly 50 years. he says he's seen the clouds grow over the years. he says despite the fact there are bigger crowds, it doesn't bother him. we're live in san francisco, back to you. san francisco police are investigating a takeover style robbery inside a nail salon that led to a police chase and a crash. it happened just before 8:00 last night on octavia street. police say at least three men armed with guns robbed people inside the nail salon and then drove off. that led to a police chase which ended when the robbers' car crashed into a second vehicle on 9th and mission

street. three people in the second vehicle suffered minor injuries. they were able to catch two of the robbers. but the third got away. the red cross is helping ten people find a place to stay after an overnight fire in berkeley. that happened just before midnight at a home on martin luther king boulevard. no one was hurt. but neighbors say the flames were a frightening wakeup call. >> i grabbed the phone to call 911. i wake up my kids and ran out of the door. we ran out already. >> the cause of the fire is under investigation. damage is estimated at $300,000. and the cause of a fire that damaged several homes in fairfield remains under investigation. it started at about 3:45 yesterday afternoon at the cordelia intersection where 80 and 6le 0 come together. that -- 680 come together. firefighters say three homes and four sheds were damaged or destroyed in the fire. about 50 homes were evacuated. >> the cops come come banging

for people to get around. we have motorcycles trying to make a right turn from leavenworth to lombard having to wait here. we've heard numerous people honking. these one of the problems that the neighbors here have complained about. they say there's a constant noise, honking people, the -- the noise of visitors in the area. they say that's another major concern. so again, that four-week experiment begins today. lombard street shut down to vehicle traffic between noon and 6:00 this weekend for the next four weekends and the 4th of july holiday. for now we're live in san francisco, christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. a family near necessary fresno -- near fresno says the drought is making them victims of water thieves. one couple has a tank that holds 25 gallons of water. he said he filled it this week and when he woke up this morning, it was empty. he said someone has stolen their water eight times.

>> it's horrible. we go without showering. can't flush our toilets, can't wash our hands. it's horrible. >> the couple says the thieves drive up to their backyard, kick in the fence and go to the tank. they say if someone needs water that bad, they will give them some for free. but now they say this are gonna install surveillance cameras to keep the thieves away. budget cuts in richmond could threaten crime. five years ago there were homicides. this year there's already six. >> we closed our housing program and have moved some detectives back to patrol just to make sure they have minimum staffing on the street. >> the richmond police department said it's been asked to cut 17% of the budget. police say that could result in the layoffs of a dozen civilian employees. in addition to the closure of some programs. two men have been found guilty in the 2009 murder of a tourist in san francisco.

a jury found william jones and lance molina guilty of first- degree murder and two other charges in the attack that killed michael bailey. prosecutors say bailey was a college student visiting san francisco from baton rouge when he was robbed and beaten in the bayview district after offering a woman a ride home from a nightclub. his attackers are now facing 25 years to life in prison for each charge. >> they started beating and kicking him and mr. bailey, he got up, tried to take the assault weapon away from them and was unsuccessful. >> michael bailey left behind a wife and three children. bailey's father left his job as a military contractor in qat to move -- in kuwait to move to the bay area for the trial. police are looking for a person who pistol-whipped and robbed a 79-year-old man in the diamond district. the victim had been planning to celebrate his 44th wedding anniversary the next day. but instead, he spent several hours in the hospital being treated for head injuries. police say the robber got away

with the man's wallet and the attack has left some neighbors shaken. >> i heard him screaming. it was like a soft, you know, sound. >> police are investigating whether the attack is connected to other robberies in the area. $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and people who live in this area are beasked to stay alert. a business owner in oakland said she was forced to use a taser gun on a man who she says was harassing her and her customers. it happened at the sacred wheel cheese shop. she said an intoxicated man came in and refused to leave and threatened to hit her. she said she called police for help but when they did not show up fast enough, she said that's when she grabbed the taser to protect herself. >> i want to know when i'm on the phone with someone and i sound desperate and i say please come help me, i need help right now, someone will stop what they are doing and come. >> i'm not saying that other

pretty big warmup. for today, this low is going to have a bigger influence on us. temperatures are gonna trend down by at least a few degrees. i think over the north bay, most notable. but some of our inland cities dropping off 5 degrees or so from the afternoon highs yesterday. along the coast, low 60s with partly cloudy skies. low 70s around the bay and our inland areas are expected to warm in the upper 80s in some areas that reached into the low 90s yesterday. hopefully you will feel that bit of relief if you don't like the heat. 60 in santa rosa as well as san francisco. oakland you are 59. concord, 64. and san jose at 62. as we get into the second half of the day, a beautiful day, warm conditions. if you are going to see the as play this afternoon, we have a nice one here. upper 60s in the forecast by game time. partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. those high clouds will come and go and that will be about it. the westerly breeze to about 10 miles per hour for the afternoon today around oakland and the coliseum. let's take a tour of the
